Groundwork training materials are designed for people who have no formal theological training and who want to learn how to serve Jesus better. The programme has a flexible schedule so that participants can carry on their normal lives. The intention is not just to gain more ‘head knowledge’, but to keep learning practically about discipleship and mission in the context of the local church.
Participants should complete the programme equipped with a set of values, skills, and relationships that will help them in everyday discipleship and mission:
Values
•a deep love for God and his word
•a prayerful reliance on the Holy Spirit in discipleship and mission
•a firm hold on key evangelical doctrines such as sovereignty, holiness, and grace
•a commitment to the community of God’s people and the priesthood of all believers
•a passion to seek and save the lost
Skills
•read and understand Scripture in the context of salvation history — from creation to new creation
•apply the gospel in a detailed way to all aspects of life
•explain the gospel to people who don’t know Jesus
•teach the Bible in a range of contexts
•manage a household (i.e. marriage, parenting, and finances) in a way that honours Jesus
Relationships
•participation in a ‘learning community’ — a network of like-minded people
